Akaushi cattle were imported to the U.S. from Japan in 1976 by two physicians due to their unique "heart-healthy" fat. They were limited by Japan to two cows and two bulls. In the 1990's additional cattle were allowed to be imported, setting the foundation for the Akaushi Breed in the U.S. Akaushi is a type of Wagyu, and is known to be the "Emperor's Breed".
Akaushi beef is considered heart-healthy due to its high concentration of monounsaturated fats, in particular oleic acid, which is also found in olive oil and helps lower "bad" cholesterol, as well as having high levels of Omega-3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. These factors support heart health, lower inflammation, brain health, and improved immunity. Better yet, this creates a more flavorful, tender profile than traditional beef!
Buy just a couple of steaks and see the difference for yourself!
